A major gas leak was reported on Tuesday morning rue Eugène Varlin in Limoges. The students of a nearby high school had to be confined for more than an hour, the time for the emergency services to secure the area. Their confinement ended around 10:30 am.

GRDF services had in fact cut off gas throughout the sector. We had to wait for the pipes to decompress, before starting the repairs. The leak apparently came from a construction site near the school. The company Eiffage carried out road works, in particular the laying of hot mix on the traffic lane, in front of the church of Saint Valérie. The asphalt would have melted a gas pipe, causing this big leak and mobilizing several fire departments and the national police.

All of the restrictive measures in the neighborhood were lifted around 10:30 am on Tuesday. A little earlier, the rue du captain Viguier at the corner of the rue Henri Dumont and the rue de Fontbonne had been closed to traffic. Once the “decompression was completed”, the GRDF services were able to start working on the repair.
