“Not only do we have this wish list, but even the airlines want to come,” said Bi Yong, recalling that the airport had served more airlines before the pandemic and are resuming flights to and from Clark International Airport in time for the holidays. Asiana’s flights serve thousands of Filipinos in the United States with onward connections to New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The flights have been suspended with the debilitating impact of the global pandemic on the travel industry. However, despite his willingness, Bi Yong said full use of Clark Airport could be delayed as current border and quarantine rules could prevent authorities from allowing more flights at Clark Freeport. “They all want to (come), but we do sorry that we are restricted due to restrictions that require passengers to go through quarantine. And they can only use quarantine facilities here in the region, ”she said. She said the airport could restore more flights and destinations from more airlines if border controls and quarantine rules are relaxed at airports like Clark International Airport, we had achieved herd immunity and most of our border restrictions are lifted. For example, if we only allow vaccinated passengers to quarantine 1-2 days, we can accept more flights, ”she added. “Today we are unfortunately refusing flights,” she added international flights per week at the height of their operations before the outbreak of the pandemic in January 2020. In the first half of 2019, they posted a record two million passengers. (Noel G. Tulabut / SunStar Pampanga)
