Other cities have already implemented this limitation, such as Grenoble in 2016, but also Lille, Pornichet and Nancy. And since Monday morning, we must now also ease off in Paris. Traffic is limited throughout the capital to 30 km / h, instead of 50 km / h until now. Some axes nevertheless remain at 50 km / h, such as the boulevards des Maréchaux which circle around Paris, or the avenue des Champs-Elysées for example. Objectives: reduce air and noise pollution and improve road safety.
But this speed limit is so low that it becomes difficult for Goran, a taxi driver in Chartres, to stick to it: “I try to respect as best I can but I know that I am not there often. descent, you start at 30, you arrive at the bottom you are at 42, without touching the accelerator, you must always have your foot on the brake “.

Magalie lives in the city center and mostly walks with her daughter. And in terms of safety, there is no revolution: “As a pedestrian, that does not change the situation at all. There is no difference between the 50 and the 30 km / h”, assures t -she.
But others see the change as Thierry Maupas, delegate of the cycling club C’Team Chartres, who goes to work every day by bike: “By bike I do 25 km / h, so I go as fast as the cars . We drive at the same speed, we feel more secure, “he says.
However, these 30 km / h are not always respected and the police do not yet issue a ticket. But for Guillaume Bonnet, deputy mayor in charge of traffic, the goal has nevertheless been achieved with more peaceful traffic.
“People are gradually getting to 30 km / h. We cannot ask them overnight to go up to 30 km / h. But we have observed a reduction in the average speed of 10 km / h, we has an average of 40 km / h therefore, and this is normal, it takes time “. And the traffic now more fluid also allows according to this elected to reduce noise pollution.
