In one week, the 2021-2022 version of the French Ligue 1 championship will begin with audiences in the various stadiums. But, depending on the evolution of the pandemic in the different cities, gauges may be imposed on the clubs. The first poster of the season between Montpellier and OM , on Sunday August 8 at 8:45 p.m., was initially scheduled to take place in front of 22,000 spectators. Because of the active circulation of the Covid-19 in Hérault, the prefect has taken the decision to reduce this gauge. The Mosson stadium will finally host 13,500 supporters. The Montpellier club has been in a closed stadium for most of the past season. It only welcomed the public during the first three days of Ligue 1. Montpellier, which finished in 8th place last year, is playing a last preparation match this Saturday in Metz, before to prepare for the reception of OM.
A few weeks ago, the club announced the departure of their famous captain, 43-year-old Vitorino Hilton. The Brazilian arrived at the club ten years ago and has worn the Montpellier jersey 325 times in Ligue 1. He also won the title of French champion in 2012.
Coach Michel Der Zakarian also left the club at the end of the season, after his contract ended. He took over the management of Stade Brestois. His replacement is the coach of Brest last season, Olivier Dall’Oglio, who wants to breathe new life into this squad. The 57-year-old will aim to qualify for the European Cup next season.
