Clermont-Ferrand customs are involved in the fight against drug trafficking in Puy-de-Dôme, a transit department for Moroccan cannabis as well as other narcotics. In all, 380 kilos of narcotics seized since last January.
In the Puy-de-Dôme, narcotics pass through the major motorways, A75 and A71 and travel by parcel post and express deliveries. “It has always been a place of passage,” says David Taillandier, regional director of customs. Vehicles from the South rally to the North to deliver resin and herbal cannabis. “They go up from Morocco, a production area via Spain to go north and more broadly to Europe,” he explains. The traffickers go through the A75 and A71, which is a major axis like the Rhone Valley ”.
Another type of narcotic is transported from the North to the South. It is the synthetic drug which “comes from the countries of the North”. Another delivery method is postal packages and express deliveries. “Last year we seized two packages. These transits are monitored by checks in postal sorting centers and processing platforms for these express packages, ”said the manager.
In addition to narcotics, tobacco also circulates on the roads. “It has been selling a lot over the past two years because it is an expensive product. East-west traffic arrives in Puy-de-Dôme via the A89. It is an underground production which comes from the countries of the East, a little also from the Maghreb “.
Clermont customs seized 380 kilos of narcotics between January and July 2021 in Puy-de-Dôme, 290 kilos of narcotics last year. They have seized 257 kilograms of tobacco since January 2021, and 431 kilograms the year before.
