THE Cebu City Council started the deliberations on Mayor Edgardo Labella’s proposed first supplementary budget (SB1) of 4.4 billion.

The proposed budget will be presented to the city council on June 9th, Wednesday after the changes proposed by city council members are incorporated. SRP Funds Garcia said the SB1 will be made from the proceeds of the South Road Properties (SRP) lots and savings from unused funds by 2020. The bulk of the proposed supplementary budget will be P 4.4 billion or P 1.2 billion used to pay the balance of the loan the city took out in 1995 to build the SRP The proposed budget will also be used to complete the construction of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC). Under the proposed SB1, P100 million will be allocated to purchase additional Covid-19 vaccines and P302 million to fund senior citizens. At least P268 million will be used to aid the city’s 80 barangays, according to the budget proposal. Meanwhile, pesos 300 million has been allocated to the city’s vaccination program, which includes spending on Manp vaccination. On the second day of the hearing on June 4, Jeffrey Ibones, the Cebu City Health Department official (CHD), said it was for the city it would be better to have a standby budget for Covid-19 vaccines. The council has already approved pesos 400 million for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines under the 2021 annual budget. If the council approves SB1, the city will have a total budget of 500 million pesos to buy Covid vaccines, and the CHD is calling for a budget of P 206 million for the following: medicines and vaccines for other diseases (70 million pounds). P), maintenance and other operating expenses (P 80 million) and hiring new doctors and nurses (P 60 million). Garcia said he could call a clarification meeting for members of the council who could not attend the budget hearings. (JJL)
