The Japanese designer will make his comeback at the end of the month at the house of the luxury group LVMH.

The appointment was overdue since the announcement of the departure of Felipe Oliveira Baptista last April and effective since this summer. It is now done with the imminent arrival of Nigo at the head of the creations of the brand founded by Takada Kenzo in 1970.

“I was born the year Takada Kenzo san opened his first boutique in Paris. We both graduated from the same fashion school in Tokyo (…) Kenzo san’s original creative approach stood out through his understanding of many cultures. It is also the essence of my own creative philosophy. Bringing the spirit of Takada Kenzo san’s know-how to life to create a new Kenzo is the biggest challenge of my 30 years of career, challenge which I intend to meet with the Kenzo teams. “

With this choice, LVMH and Kenzo are definitely betting on street credibility. DJ and music producer, the Japanese designer is also the founder of the Tokyo streetwear brand A Bathing Ape (BAPE), launched in 1993 and today distributed in around fifty points of sale in Asia, but also in Paris, London. , New York or Los Angeles. BAPE had in particular offered a good visibility in the world of luxury at the end of last year by signing an LV2 capsule in collaboration with Virgil Abloh for the Louis Vuitton house.
