The Sauber Academy is once again welcoming an old friend of the team, as Juan Manuel Correa joins the Sauber driver development stream for the 2021 season.

The 21-year-old, who competes in the FIA F3 Championship with ART Grand Prix, knows the Hinwil team very well, having tested one of the team’s cars in 2019.

This test, which took place at Paul Ricard, the same site that will host the round of the F3 calendar this weekend, allowed Juan Manuel to taste Formula 1 machines for the first time and represented a great opportunity to learning for the Ecuadorian-American pilot.

Having integrated well into the team and having had the chance to work with engineers and teams of pilots Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi, Juan Manuel, then competing in F2, impressed with his work ethic and innate talent. .

His progress in the junior series was interrupted by a terrible accident in a tragic crash at the Belgian Grand Prix later in the season, but, after a completely miraculous recovery, Juan Manuel is back on track and ready to go. resume his adventure with the Sauber Academy.

It’s very special to be back with Sauber Academy: it’s the junior program of the team I was with in 2019, when I did my first and only test in F1, and it is a great feeling to work with them again. I’m very excited to show the Academy colors on my car and helmet starting this weekend in France and look forward to helping the team whenever needed, whether in the simulator or elsewhere.

I am very grateful to ART and to Sébastien Philippe, and of course to Fred Vasseur, for all the support he has given me, as well as all the other members of Sauber, from Beat Zehnder to all who have been absolutely amazing and supportive since my accident and throughout my recovery. It’s an honor to be back on this team.

Juan Manuel has always shown skill and determination, but his remarkable comeback from injury is an inspiring story that shows all of his strength and willpower. We have nothing but pure admiration for his tenacity and we are happy to help him, through the Sauber Academy program, to resume his career in motorsport.

I fell into it when I was little, my first memories go back to Monte-Carlo, then an F1 Grand Prix!
Since then, I have not given up, addicted to 2 and 4 wheels!
