Rep. Jim Jordan, the Ohio Republican who willingly plotted and who lies as one of the strongest defenders of President Donald Trump in Congress, will be rewarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Monday for his loyalty.

The award, the highest civilian honor in the United States, is given, at the discretion of the Commander in Chief, in recognition of “particularly meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, or the cultural or other important public or private endeavors. “Past recipients include Rosa Parks, Mother Teresa and Walt Disney.

Trump’s decision to bestow the Prestigious Honor on Jordan – a non-partisan that worked to undermine impeachment in 2019 and then focused on lying about Spreading the 2020 election, then expressing a shock when those lies helped spark a deadly riot in the Capitol – continues a pattern of the outgoing president rewarding his allies with medals or pardons during his final weeks in office / p> Since Trump lost the election to Joe Biden (and refused to concede defeat), he has also awarded Rep. Devin Nunes, another Loyalist in Congress, the Medal of Freedom while serving his staff because of Crimes had been convicted, the President issued pardons Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Jared Kushner’s father, former representative Duncan H under and Chris Collins as well as George Papadopoulos among others. There is speculation that he might issue preventative pardons for his children, attorney Rudy Giuliani, and perhaps even himself before he retires.

In a statement, the White House canceled Jordan’s work on the IRS investigation and attack von Benghazi 2012 as well as his efforts to “expose the Russia hoax and fight corruption in the Deep State”.

“He is an inspiration for freedom-loving Americans everywhere and has distinguished himself as one of the most consistent members of Congress of his generation” The White House statement reads.

Despite representing his district in northwest Ohio since 2007, Jordan gained national notoriety during Trump’s tenure in the White House thanks to his seemingly endless willingness to defend any behavior by the president. That reputation led Republicans to temporarily transfer him to the Intelligence Committee during the House impeachment investigation so he could act as an attack dog on behalf of the President. Jordan often appeared without a suit jacket and with his sleeves rolled up, and served as Trump’s main defender during the impeachment trial, in which he posed combative and combative questions to witnesses. His turning point drew him further into Trump’s circle.

After the 2020 election, Jordan also mimicked the president’s lies about electoral integrity and election observers in Pennsylvania. He was one of 126 House Republicans who unsuccessfully asked the Supreme Court to allow Texas to invalidate Biden’s victories in several swing states.

After the coup attempt, Jordan focused on fighting Trump against a second probable one Defending impeachment by calling for unity.

Jordan also had questions about whether he knew of allegations of sexual assault against a doctor at Ohio State University while serving as a wrestling coach there in the 1980s and 1990s . More than 100 alumni said that Richard Strauss, who killed himself in 2005, had committed sexual misconduct. A 2019 report found no such evidence that Jordan knew about the abuse, but six former wrestlers told CNN last year that lawmakers were aware of the complaints and did nothing to stop it. Jordan has denied the allegations.
