Highway 97 remains completely closed in West Kelowna on Sunday morning as a number of RCMP members are investigating the area.
Police tape surrounds the mall on the west side of Highway 97 near Elk Road, and police officers are “everywhere”, according to Castanet’s Wayne Moore.
The freeway has been completely closed since 6 am as the police investigate. It remains unclear what caused the large police presence.
On the other side of Lake Okanagan, police are investigating a shooting in Rutland on Sunday morning. However, it is not known if this is in any way related to the West Kelowna incident.
The Elk Road incident was first reported by DriveBC at 6 a.m., and the freeway remains between Grizzly Road in both directions and the Butt Road closed.
