OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – A women’s advocacy group is sentencing an Oklahoma woman to jail after she miscarried while taking methamphetamine.

Officials from the National Pregnant Women Attorney on Monday condemned the conviction 21-year-old Brittney Poolaw in Comanche County earlier this month.

However, Lynn Paltrow, executive director of NAPW, says there is no evidence that the miscarriage was caused by meth use.

She says that prosecuting women for miscarriages will have a deterrent effect preventing women from seeking medical help.
