I would kindly ask all of my white colleagues in this industry, an industry that we love and that has given us tremendous privileges…. to call, emerge and solve this problem, “said Ellen Pompeo in her open letter, calling on HFPA for lack of diversity.

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo wrote an open letter to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) addressing the inclusion problem recently brought to light by the Los Angeles Times. There are 87 members who are allowed to vote for the awards, and the name of the association was given because none of the members were black journalists.

Pompeo called the body responsible for the awards ceremony of the Golden Globes every year because of its apparent lack of diversity. The HFPA had recently responded to the backlash, saying it intended to “work immediately on implementing a plan”. However, Pompeo asked “White Hollywood” to “do the work to correct the mistakes we are making”.

“I would kindly ask all of my white colleagues in this industry, an industry that we love and that we do granted a tremendous privilege … to solve, emerge, and fix this problem. “

Previously, Sterling K. Brown, Kerry Washington, Jurnee Smollett, Amy Schumer, and Dakota Johnson had called HFPA using Time’s Up-Post had shared.

The lack of diversity of the HFPA has been widely criticized for years. There was an outcry in December last year after the American film Minari, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, was deemed unsuitable for the best picture race at the 2021 Golden Globes. The drama with Steven Yeun at the top has been relegated to the category of best foreign language films as it is predominantly in Korean.
