The National Electrification Administration (NEA) should be part of its budget for residents of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) said Senator Sherwin Gatchalian Implementation of the Sitio electrification program (SEP) for the remote villages in d he said region was provided.

“Please keep it in mind, as it is one of the wishes of our Kababayans in BARMM to be electrified, especially in this insurgent area,” said Gathcalian during the Senate Finance Subcommittee hearing NEA budget for 3.896 billion pesos in 2022.

“It’s a way to stave off riots by making sure there is a constant flow of electricity. Without electricity there is poverty ”, emphasized Gatchalian.

The NEA administrator Emmanuel Juaneza explained to the panel that the peace and order situation in the BARMM has led to the region being excluded from its SEP funding for the next year.

According to Juaneza, the NEA has coordinated with the National Task Force to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) to help them address the peace and order problem that has been one of their greatest hurdles in remote areas the case in BARMM.

The newly appointed NEA administration assured that, despite the current assignment to the agency, it is prepared to shift more to the BARMM area. They are also discussing the matter with the Department of Energy (DOE).

“We could maybe raise some funding, 450 million pence I think. We can attribute it to BARMM, ”Juaneza told Gatchalian.

Gatchalian welcomed this move when he realized that the NTF-ELCAC has billions of funds available for the NTF-ELCAC’s Barangay Development Program to help the strongholds of Evict communists and insurgents and build farm-to-market roads, schools and livelihood programs and build rural electrification.

“It’s important to reach out to them so they can use the government sense. I think we should really look at BARMM and the impoverished areas there so that the government can reach them. And electricity is one way of reducing poverty, “said the Senator.

” I think it is common knowledge that BARMM is one of the poorest areas in our country. We need to strengthen our Sitios there to ensure that the government is present and that it reaches these areas, ”he said.
