LAS PALMAS, Spain – Garrick Higgo from South Africa shot under 7 and went into the finals of the Gran Canaria Open on Saturday with two shots.

Higgo’s 63rd round was his best career on the European Tour. He reached the fourth hole, par 5, and hit six birdies with a bogey on the Meloneras Golf Course in the Spanish Canary Islands.

“It was good. An incredible start,” said Higgo when he was on his first four Holes 5 went down.

“I putted well, my chipping was great,” he said. “I will definitely try to be aggressive when I can (tomorrow) but I’ll just enjoy it.” It’s a good place to be. “

The 21-year-old Higgo is aiming for his second title on the tour after winning the Portugal Open last season.

Matthias Schwab, Matthieu Pavon and Connor Syme are all two shots back, followed by Sam Horsfield and Jeff Winther, three behind.

Wu Ashun’s 61st round was the lowest round a Chinese player has ever played European Tour has played. He is four shots back with seven other players.

Wus 61 set a course record set overnight by Thorbjørn Olesen, Syme and Horsfield on Friday.
