The Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson announced on Monday an agreement to acquire the American Vonage, a specialist in communications solutions via the cloud, for 6.2 billion dollars (5.5 billion euros).

Ericsson continues to diversify. The Swedish telecoms equipment manufacturer announced on Monday that it had reached an agreement to acquire the specialist in cloud communications Vonage, for an amount of $ 6.2 billion (5.5 billion euros). Ericsson’s offer on the listed group has received “the unanimous approval of the Vonage board of directors” and is part of its “strategy of expanding wireless communications and broadening its global offering” , wrote the group in a press release.

Last year, Ericsson acquired another US company, Cradlepoint, which specializes in wireless WAN solutions for businesses, for $ 1.1 billion. The acquisition of Vonage is thus the largest in recent Ericsson history. It is expanding its activity beyond its historical market for equipment for telecom networks, particularly in 5G, where it is battling with the Chinese leader Huawei and the Finnish Nokia.
