The video chat app Houseparty will be closed for good, the developers announced in an announcement on Thursday, September 9th.
The app, founded in 2015, allows users to connect via video and in multiplayer – Play games like Heads Up and Uno against each other. After acquiring Houseparty in 2019, Epic Games launched its popular Fortnite mode, a feature that connects players via video calls and allows them to stream the game live straight into the app.
“Since joining Epic, the social vision and core technology of the Houseparty team have already contributed to new features used by hundreds of millions of people in Fortnite and by developers around the world, ”the announcement said. The developers went on to say that with such growth “the app or our community cannot get the attention it deserves” as a reason for unplugging the app, they claimed that the team behind Houseparty continued to work across the board becomes epic games.
Houseparty will be removed from the app stores immediately. Existing users can still use the app for the time being before it is completely blocked in October.
