ARSENAL newcomer Aaron Ramsdale will make his club debut against West Brom – the club he supported as a child.

The 23-year-old goaltender grew up as a Baggies fan and idolized by Ben Foster, who spent seven years at the Hawthorns.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta gave Ramsdale the green light in front of Bernd Leno for their League Cup clash against the league team.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returns as team captain and Martin Odegaard makes his second debut for the Gunners.

Ramsdale told the Bournemouth Echo in 2019 that he is a West Brom fan and admires Foster.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper said: “Fozzy [Foster] made some great saves in the first half and it was great to share the pitch with him.

“As a West Brom fan, I watched him for a long, long time when he was there.”

The 38-year-old Watford star Foster made more than 200 Premier League appearances for the Baggies between 2011 and 2018.

He also clinched eight senior caps for England and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup, keeping a clean sheet against Costa Rica.

Ramsdale, born in Staffordshire, admitted he tried to emulate Foster during his youth career as he rose through the ranks at Bramall Lane.

The Arsenal ace added: “The way he plays, the speed at which he plays and his ability to kick off with both feet, I know his game inside and out.

“A few years ago we played at West Brom and he signed a jersey for me.

“He’s remembered it ever since and he said, ‘You’re a good goalie, you can play, you can kick him and you come and get crosses.’ ‘

“There are definitely things you are trying to take out of his game and implement in mine.”
