On Saturday (Austrian time) the Filipino Olympic participant jumped the 5.93 meter mark to get gold at the 17th International Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck.
The pole vaulter had two attempts on 5th place , 80 meters before he successfully cracked the 5.93 mark with three attempts.
With his performance, Obiena and Igor Potapovich from Kazakhstan set the new Asian record, which was previously 5.92 meters.
The new record also gave Obiena his new personal best and his national record, which he previously held at 5.91 meters after competing in the Paris Diamond League in August.
The American Matt Ludwig came in second 5.60 meters, while Ersu Sasma from Turkey took third place with the same record.
Obiena recently took part in the Diamond League Finals in Zurich, Switzerland, where she finished fourth.
