London: Former world number one Karolina Pliskova will drop out of the WTA top 10 for the first time in nearly five years after her attempt to keep the Eastbourne title was ruined by Camila Giorgi on Tuesday .

The fifth seeded Czech was beaten 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 by Italian qualifier Giorgi in the first round of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament on England’s south coast.

Bianca Andreescu, seeded third, secured her first victory on grass since 2018, defeating Christina McHale 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

The British Harriet Dart lost 6-2, 6-7 (5/7), 6-4 against the Kazakh number 21 in the world, E lena Rybakina, who defeated Serena Williams at the French Open.
