Shortly after Warner Bros. gave the official go-ahead for Dune: Part 2, the studio announced the official release date.
Just one day before the film premiered, Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff indicated on the follow-up film. Less than a week later, an official release from Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. confirmed that the sequel is imminent. The director Denis Villeneuve himself announced in a statement: “I just got the message from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two. It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune, and I have the fans, cast and crew of Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting that dream. This is just the beginning. ”
Villeneuve had always planned the film as a two-part film and previously revealed that he would only sign Dune for Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment because they agreed to split it into two parts by Frank Herbert’s novel. While he initially wanted to film both in a row, the studio felt it was too risky. With the official announcement of Dune: Part 2, Warner Bros. also announced that the sequel will hit theaters exclusively on October 20, 2023, and the film opened on October 22, 2021.
Elsewhere in the Dune news, Denis Villenueve would like to turn it into a trilogy.
