The request not to fight too hard with his teammate rang in the ears of Australian teenager Jack Doohan as he took a hard-fought victory in the final race of the Formula 3 season.

Runner-up Doohan and Frenchman Clement Novalak dueled at the top for much of Sunday’s race in Sochi, Russia, as their team worried that a mishap could cost their Trident outfit the team’s championship title.

And everything worked out well, because Doohan’s victory with Novalak in third was enough for Trident to overtake the PREMA team of championship winner Dennis Hauger in the team classification and to take this title.

The always polite 18-year-old Doohan did not apologize for it that after his fourth win in his stellar season, he didn’t retreat from Novalak’s challenge as he prepares for the expected promotion to Formula 2 in 2022.
