SINGAPORE: Starting Monday (November 1st), all government agencies will accept the digital identity card (IC) in the Singpass app as alternative evidence.

This means that people will use their physical The Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) announced on Thursday.

However, some do apply Exceptions, e.g. B. when the legislation requires physical identification, e.g. B. for marriage registrations and hotel check-ins.

Physical ID cards are also required for investigations under the Code of Criminal Procedure and / or the National Registration Act. The physical IC must also be handed in for national service enlistment or when joining the Singapore Armed Forces.

“We are working to change the legislation to formalize the use of digital IC for these exemptions,” said SNDGO and GovTech.

The digital IC feature, introduced last May, is now prominently displayed on the app homepage for easy access.

There are security measures to protect the user’s identity as the digital IC serves as an official identification document, added SNDGO and GovTech.

The digital IC contains the latest photo of the user made available to the government and is accompanied by an animated and holographic lion crest for image manipulation and screenshot Prevent spoofing.

In addition, users’ NRIC numbers or VIN are masked by default to protect their privacy during transactions, and e User authentication is required to view full details on the digital IC.
