Dexter Recap: [Spoiler] is called into question when Harrison finally realizes what he remembers

Yellowjackets renewed for season 2

The second Dexter realized he had to tell Harrison everything, he was kidnapped and almost killed before he could do so. Par for the course from Dexter: New Blood, I suppose.

It all came back for Harrison last week when the boy admitted to his father that what he thought were a bunch of nightmares were actually real, terrible memories were from his past. Even more heartbreaking was the fact that Harrison thought it was his own dark tendencies that caused his father to abandon him, and not because his father was the Bay Harbor Butcher who murdered a lot of people and his aunt’s body in the ocean . While Dex finally wants to free his soul from the darkness that haunts them both, he must first survive Kurt’s latest attempted murder.

Dexter lies passed out in the back of Elrick’s truck and dreams of Harrison viciously slaughtering tyrants from the school. Kurt calls Elrick to check in, and when the call ends, Dexter strangles the guy with the wires on his wrists. The truck comes off the road, hits a pole, and completely ejects Dexter. He happens to use the titanium screw Kurt sent him to completely free his hands, but when his kidnapper comes to, he chases Dex into the woods with a rifle.

At the station, Logan leaks Angela, that Jim “almost killed that drug dealer,” which Angela did not know since she was in New York at the time. She tracks down Miles and asks him about his meeting with Jim, whom the boy calls “a madman”. Miles tells her that before Jim started pounding him, he stabbed him with some sort of needle. Angela is confused why Dexter hit him after the police showed up, and when Miles shows her his neck, she sees a visible pinprick.

Back in the woods, Elrick yells that Kurt ordered him to bring Dexter alive , “but he has to understand,” says the shooter and fires a few more shots in Dexter’s direction. Dexter finds a sign leading to the abandoned summer camp, so he deliberately drains blood to lure the madman there.

Meanwhile, Kurt and Harrison go to the high school batting cages, where Kurt teaches the boy how to do one swings properly. Kurt then hits Harrison with three quick curveballs. Then four. Soon Harrison steps into the seats intentionally trying to injure himself. Kurt finally turns off the machine and offers the boy to cook venison. They begin the hike to the man’s killing hut.

Angela tells Logan that she can’t stop thinking about the opioid case. The detective gives her an overview of Miles yelling at Jasper and how Jasper accidentally overdosed. She questions the medical examiner who was investigating Jasper’s death, but he confirms it was an accident. However, she inspects his neck and finds a needle mark that exactly matches Miles.

When Elrick arrives at the camp, he notices a missing knife that Dexter has grabbed. Dexter agrees with Jason Voorhees and hits through a mirror to bring Elrick to the ground. Elrick reveals that Kurt is bringing Harrison to his cabin. Dexter quickly stabs him in the chest, covers him with a tarpaulin, and steals the guy’s jacket and hat.

At the cabin, Kurt tells Harrison to stop punishing himself for his mistakes and that he should find out what gives him joy, and do it. While Dexter desperately text his son to warn him about Kurt, Harrison asks about the story behind Kurt’s arrest. Kurt responds that it was “just a small mix-up” and that his father murdered a girl in Iron Lake years ago. Kurt asks why Harrison and Jim had an argument at the truck stop. The teenager says that he keeps wanting something from Jim that he apparently can’t quite get. Harrison thinks Jim knew how different they were. “We don’t get along on a normal father-son level. I have the feeling that he is always holding something back from me, ”says the boy. Kurt, who always plays mind games, tells Harrison that if he were his son he would never have left him.

Kurt says he has something to attend to and when he comes back he’s dressed in his wintery white murder clothes. He forces Harrison outside at gunpoint just as Dexter pulls up. Kurt first thinks Elrick is behind the wheel and wants Dexter to watch him murder his son. But just as Kurt realizes that Dex is in the driver’s seat, Dexter tries to mow him down, but the villain runs off. Dexter and Harrison hug, and when Kurt disappears that night, the reunited father and son drive away.

Dexter tells Harrison that he should have told him so much sooner. He says the boy will never have to feel alone with his dark thoughts again because he was born in blood just like him and they share the same violent urges. He tells him all about Harry’s code and how he learned to channel his urges. “I’ll tell you everything,” says Dexter. Harrison jumps over to hug his father as they drive on.

Meanwhile, Angela goes through Jasper files at home and investigates Dexter’s real identity. After a Google search or two, she connects a few important points: Ketamine was found in Jasper’s system … the same drug Miami’s Bay Harbor Butcher used to inject on the neck of his victims.
