Jean-Paul Belmondo, who died this Monday, September 6, 2021, had come to shoot, in Langon, Bazas and Cadillac in particular, for Doctor Popaul, by Claude Chabrol, in 1972.
This Monday, September 6, 2021, we learned of the death of Jean-Paul Belmondo, icon of French cinema. The Professional, The Brain, L’As des aces, Borsalino… Bébel’s films will have marked several generations.
Among Jean-Paul Belmondo’s impressive filmography is Doctor Popaul, a 1972 film directed by Claude Chabrol.
Its particularity: this feature film was shot, in part, in the South of Gironde. Especially at Cadillac, where Belmondo crashed into a 2CV and called out “It’s not enough for you to crash my sister-in-law, you need my car, damn […] Shut up, shut up, shut up” to another actor.

“My wife’s cousin worked at La Poste de Cerons. She brought her the break-up telegrams written by Ursula Andress.”
But In Docteur Popaul, we see other well-known corners of the South Girondins; starting with the castle of Roquetaillade, in Mazères, or even the banks of the Garonne, in Langon, the cathedral of Bazas. But not only… There is also Barsac. “And we, young teenagers from Barsac, we used to badass Mya Farrow’s cleavage in the hospital scene because the window overlooked the street,” said a South Girondin on Facebook.
