Mayor Bill de Blasio became an instant meme on Tuesday when he pulled a black Brooklyn Nets jersey under his open blue button-down shirt and a never-worn flat-brimmed Nets hat for his morning press conference on Tuesday .

Hizzoner dressed to announce the city’s latest program designed to encourage people to get the COVID-19 vaccine – a chance to get tickets to the team’s playoff games win if they are shot in a pop-up location outside the Barclays Center.

“The nets are heading to Brooklyn for all of New York,” said de Blasio during his daily virtual press conference. “This will be another extraordinary effort to get everyone vaccinated.”

“This is going to be great, a great opportunity to see one of the greatest teams in a long time, and a team that brings Brooklyn and New York City fame “The last thing you see before you get priced out of your neighborhood,” The Daily Show quipped.

The eyebrow press came after the mayor made headlines last week by stuffing Shake Shack Grub stiffly into his mouth at a press conference and announcing that the fast food place would be giving vaccinated customers free fries.

It also comes a day after Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that that the Nets and Knicks can accept more participants for the playoffs in their stadiums. At least 50 percent of the seats are reserved for vaccinated areas where masks and social distancing are not required – although the governor encouraged owners to fill each seat with vaccinated fans.

John Abbamondi, CEO of Nets, of the Came to de Blasio on Tuesday said they would try to get “as close to full capacity” as possible, with most parts of Barclays reserved for vaccinated people and only a “handful” of physically detached seats for unvaccinated participants.

“There is a light at the end of the tunnel – it comes in the form of a vaccine and we are very excited to be part of the vaccination effort,” he said. “We’re really looking for our fans to get vaccinated.”

Abbamondi and de Blasio assume the nets will get deep into the playoffs, so there are multiple ways to collect tickets.

“We are really looking forward to the playoffs.… We make no secret of it, we have very high ambitions for this season,” said Abbamondi.
