Darwin was struck by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the Barat Daya Islands in Indonesia overnight.
The Bureau of Meteorology said there was no tsunami threat to mainland Australia, the islands or territories.
Residents of Darwin, including Australian athlete and former politician Nova Peris, said it was felt throughout the territory.
A local, awakened by the tremors, told her Bed is “good and really rocked”.
Some meteorological locations have reported that the quake has reached a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale.
