POLICE – Gérald Darmanin on Wednesday 13 October asked the PS mayor of Cachan for an explanation of the “unacceptable” remarks of one of his LFI deputies against the police.

In a letter addressed to the city councilor, the Minister of the Interior denounces “the unacceptable remarks made during the municipal council of September 30 by Dominique Lanoe”, LFI deputy to the mayor of Cachan (Val-de-Marne), Hélène de Comarmond.

“Their content is unambiguous”, he believes before quoting them: “I believed that the aim of the police was to protect the population and not necessarily to possess weapons to kill, because it is that’s the meaning in good current French ”. Referring to the “excitement” caused by them “within the police and beyond”, he added that he wanted the mayor to “tell him in what context such statements were made”.

“We must collectively be intransigent in the face of all attacks against the women and men who protect us,” he continues. The minister concludes his letter with a handwritten sentence: “Thank you for your response, which will decide the possible follow-up that the Ministry of the Interior will take to preserve the honor of the police”.

The Alliance police union released a statement on Twitter to welcome the minister’s support: “Anti-cop hate, the interior minister proves us right”, he “calls the mayor of Cachan to account following the shocking remarks of ‘an elected LFI ”.

She recalled “her attachment to the values of the Republic and its institutions, carried by women and men committed to the populations on a daily basis”.

The city explained that in favor of a debate launched by the “elected representatives of the opposition on the arming of the municipal police”, there had been “an exchange (which) aroused the controversy between the elected officials and uncontrolled remarks were made ”. “Part of the opposition has chosen to dramatize its exit from the theater, deliberately starting the controversy,” added the city.

The municipality has warned that Hélène de Comarmond “does not rule out taking legal action, both against the author of the contested video montage and against any person who repeats it. , thereby disseminating false information ”.

She further noted that the City Council had been “broadcast live and available in full replay.”
