WHILE new cases of infection seemed to plateau, deaths from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) continued to rise to over 200 on Sunday, May 9, 2021. In its Sunday case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 7,174 new ones Covid -19 cases, which increases the cumulative number of cases to 1,101,990.

The seven day moving average continued to decline to 6,735 and the daily positivity rate fell below 14 percent. However, DOH officials also found that test performance was low. On May 7, 46,878 samples were tested for Sars-CoV-2 and 13.9 percent. The DOH also confirmed 204 deaths, exceeding 200 for the first time in almost a month. May exceeded 100. These additional death rates raised the Covid-19 death toll in the Philippines to 18,472 and the death rate to 1.68 percent.
