The seeded Philadelphia 76ers are halfway through the second round after winning the first two games of their opening series against the No. 8 Washington Wizards. The 76ers are looking for their first 3-0 lead in the series since 1991 when they face host Washington in Game 3 as the series moves to D.C. on Saturday night. After two quarterbacks at D.C., the 76ers are in the lead as they took a double-digit lead in the break.

Joel Embiid had a strong start to the playoffs, averaging 26 points while shooting over 60% from the ground and 42.9% from 3 points. The big man has also surpassed the mark by 20 points in each of his last seven playoff games. On the other hand, Bradley Beal scored 33 points in each of the first two games. He struggled beyond the arc (1 of 6), as did the rest of the Wizards (2 of 22) in Wednesday’s loss. Russell Westbrook left Game 2 with a sprained right ankle but is available for Game 3.

And with that quick and easy dunk for Tobias Harris, Philly’s lead is 20. The Wizards just can’t get the Sixers down a bit. Washington’s defense isn’t really worth writing, but the biggest questions the Sixers will face in the playoffs are offense. So far, they have answered the call.

What’s been interesting about this second half is that the Wizards seem to be in control of the terms of entry. This quarter has been fast. And that doesn’t matter. Philly only surpasses them.

Looks like Danny Green just got hit… the place where guys don’t want to be hit. He seemed to cut her wind for a second, but he’s fine and stays in the game as Joel Embiid tries to hold back his laughter.

. @ DGreen_14 logged on 5-8 3-point 1st-half attempts, 1 short of a career-high for any half of the playoffs. He & @jj_redick is just @sixers w / 5 3s in a playoff half in the PxP era. h / t @Stathead

The 76ers are shooting 52.4% from behind the arc. That’s an 18 point lead at this point. The rout is launched.

We saw five 3s in the first two minutes and change that half. Of course, Philly has been hot all day. Washington is going to have to do more than shoot its own to beat them.

We’re starting to see some of Washington’s bad luck behind the bend of the arc. It’s back to back 3 for the Wizards to cut the deficit to eight, but of course, because Philly can’t miss today, Joel Embiid responds with a 3 of his own.

It’s going to do it for the first half and this one’s not close. Philadelphia leads 72-58 with Joel Embiid shedding 25 points.

Joel Embiid just pushed Alex Len into one of the dumbest mistakes you’ll ever see. There was less than a second left in the half and they were behind the half court. It turns a lift into free throws. They call him down, so at least it’s only going to be two free throws.

One of the fringe benefits of Joel Embiid’s improved shooting this season? Defenders are MUCH more vulnerable to his false pomp. He just cheated Daniel Gafford with it and almost got an open dunk of the case. He missed, but the larger point remains.

Philly is going to ditch that little Westbrook left banker all day. It’s a low percentage shot now, no matter how much he likes it.

The Wizards are now 5 for 37 in the last two games behind the arc. No other way to put it: they’re going to lose this series if this continues. They will probably be swept away.

Ish Smith headed for the locker room, according to Malika Andrews. It’s his left shoulder, but it’s a real problem for the Wizards. Remember, Russell Westbrook is at least as complete. They need their other guards to be more productive today, not less.

As Vince just pointed out, the Sixers just tackled Embiid at the other end of the field in the Wizards’ free throws. It’s a tactic the Lakers often use to get Anthony Davis published quickly, and Philly seems to have adopted it here.
