ChloÌ ?? e Bailey, one half of the sister vocal duo Chlöe x Halle, appears as a solo artist with her new single “Have Mercy”.

The accompanying video shows that the 23-year-old singer is adopting a more mature aesthetic than before, leading some fans to question her decision to show “so much skin”.

When asked why “Have Mercy” is a bit racy than her previous pictures, Bailey decided to smile and keep it concise in her explanation.

“Why are you showing so much skin?” Bailey said during an Instagram Q&A session, repeating a fan question. “Because I can. It’s my body and I’m so proud of it, and I hope you’re proud of yours too.” Men can glorify the ass in their videos, I want to do it in a really artful, fun and beautiful way. And I love how women claim ownership of their bodies and not let the world do it. We can do it this way however we want it and it was really fun!

“I felt really pretty on the days of shooting and I think back and think, ‘This is not the same person here,’ but it’s fun right now Made. ”

The video shows Bailey in several sultry looks that differ from her previous clips, along with eye-catching choreographies and a range of cameos, including Tina Knowles, mother of Bailey’s mentor Beyoncé.

Many were fans torn from the video, and some believed the singer “Hypersexualize” yourself to be successful in the industry.

“Have Mercy is just one more example in a long list of examples that black women are being hypersexualized in popular music today; from their clothes to the lyrics to the choreography, “tweeted one reviewer and another added:” The more you undress now, the better your music is? Nice… Why wear clothes in the first place? ”

Fortunately, Bailey seems to have far more fans than critics, many of whom support her development and anticipate her VMA appearance in 2021.

“@ ChloeBailey # HAVEMERCY is EVERYTHING! The concept, plot, direction, performance and production of the music video are flawless. I just â ???? You deserve it now. Can’t wait to see what’s to come. #VMAs ”tweeted one supporter, a second added:“ Chloe Bailey gave VISUALS, CHOREO, CONFIDENCE & LOOKS. it’s time you all stopped playing with her. Have Mercy is a BOP. “
