One Piece has unveiled its new film, One Piece Film: Red, after the official launch of its 1,000th anime episode.
The project is overseen by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda himself and directed by Goro Taniguchi, who worked on Mobile Suit Gundam, Code Geass and, according to Oda, was the first person in the world to animate the main protagonist of the series, Luffy.
The short teaser trailer above starts with an image of an empty musical score in which the grid lines dance off the sheet to reveal a hand-drawn image of a new female figure, accompanied by a narrative that translates as: “Will her voice produce forever? Happiness … Or endless imprisonment? “In a handwritten message to the fans, Oda says,” I’m sick of drawing legendary old grandfathers in films! I want to draw a new little female figure! This is the character I want to make now! ”The 30-second teaser ends with a picture of the pirate Shanks.
Shanks, also known as “Red Hair”, is the captain of the Red Hair Pirates, one of the four emperors of the New World and the man who gave and inspired young Luffy his characteristic straw hat at the beginning of the series he’s supposed to be a pirate. With just a few appearances, One Piece fans are excited to learn more about the powerful and enigmatic character.
One Piece Film: Red will premiere in Japan on August 6, 2022 before being released worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates.
