Albian Ajeti made a strong contender for losing the season when Celtic drew 1-1 with Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.

The The hosts got off to a perfect start when Liel Abada rose to scoring his third Scottish Premiership goal since joining the club (16).

But their lead only lasted two minutes when Ian Harkes stood up for a cross by Ilmari Niskanen to defeat Joe Hart.

David Turnbull, Tom Rogic and Jota all hit the bar for Celtic but failed to reproduce the form in which they scored 26 goals in seven straight home wins and have now lost more points than they won in the league.

Celtic had to settle for one point that kept them sixth in the table, six points behind Rangers. Dundee United stays one point and one place above.

Despite recent struggles, Celtic started confident and should have been in the lead when Ajeti hit an Anthony Ralston cross but managed to get his header over the bar.

The hosts had five strikers – Giorgos Giakoumakis , Mikey Johnston, Karamoko Dembele, Kyogo Furuhashi and James Forrest – but found the breakthrough in just 16 minutes.

Abada had already been fought off by Ryan Edwards in a final duel, but he made no mistake than that lively Jota found space to the flank from the left and the Israeli striker threw his header over Benjamin Siegrist.

At this point, you had the feeling that Postecoglou was with calmed nerves would take a convincing win, but the lead was short-lived.

Niskanen escaped over the left flank and made a nice cross of his own to prevent Harkes’ drift into the penalty area at the near post for his header hurry to Hart for an instant response.

Celtic had lost just one of their last 18 league games with Dundee United, won seven of the last eight and almost regained the lead within two minutes.

Jota again combined well with Abada, who flipped the ball to Albian Ajeti, only for the Swiss striker to lift his shot from four meters over the bar and Siegrist was stranded.

Dundee United had lost 10 of their last 11 league away games against Celtic, the other 1 : 1 tied in November 2013, but in the middle of the opening period they had strong claims to a penalty.

Referee Kevin Clancy was unmoved after Carl Starfelt from Nicky Clark was swept off the ball, the Dundee United striker appeared to be bundled in the penalty area by Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Adam Montgomery replaced Juranovic and initially struggled with his pass, although he was far from the only Celtic player .

Jota, however, remained a threat and saw the efforts of Siegrist and Ryan Edwards foiled.

Turnbull almost gave an audibly frustrated home support in the last minute of half when he spun and one unleashed powerful left foot from 25 meters, which hit the underside of the crossbar. Ajeti pocketed the rebound but had pushed Edwards to get the ball and the goal was rightly denied.

Ismaila Soro came on in the second half for James McCarthy, who came on after a late tackle by Jeando Fuchs had taken a blow, but also generally had difficulty bringing the pace Postecoglou needed.

Abada shot past twice when Celtic went broke, but United threatened in between when Niskanen rolled just past the goal.

It took Soro time to catch up but Celtic started pushing United back for long periods of time.

United defended their box well but there were openings. The unmarked Ajeti missed another good chance when he failed to make clean contact on a cross from Abada. Jota volleyed under pressure and Rogic headed the bar from eight yards.

Louis Appere forced a good stop from Joe Hart as United threatened a late winner before Jota launched a looping strike before the full-time whistle which was accompanied by loud scorn.
