Star cars have a certain appeal and offer a contrasting glimpse into the private life of a celebrity behind the wheel with that of an often exaggerated public figure. Cars like one of Rod Stewart’s Lamborghini Miuras, whose headliner was allegedly pierced with holes made from spiked heels, or Elvis’ De Tomaso Pantera, which has the bullet holes he put in, are extreme examples. And although the Rolls-Royce Corniche from 1994, which was given to Roy Horn for his 50th birthday this year, does not have such poignant battle scars, it may still have some paw prints on its dazzling white color.

Who was Roy Horn ? Exactly half of the famous illusionistic duo – and the headliner from Las Vegas – Siegfried & Roy and his convertible are being offered without reservation on behalf of the Siegfried & Roy estate. The car is one of the lots to be featured at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming live auction in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 17-19.

1965 was an important year for Rolls-Royce, whose new Silver Shadow marked a radical departure from traditional bodywork and became the first unibody car to sport the spirit of ecstasy on its grille. The four-door body was manufactured in the factory and signaled the end of the era of body construction. However, the customers who requested them were offered stylish two-door coupes and convertibles built by Rolls-Royce subsidiary Mulliner Park Ward.

By far the most expensive British car when it was launched, the coupe and convertible, were christened Corniche in 1971, as a reference to the streets on the French Côte d’Azur. While the coupé was discontinued in 1982, the popular and coveted convertible was produced until 1996, with customers often waiting years for delivery.

The performance of the vehicle could be described as “reasonable” in today’s Rolls-Royce parlance, which actually equates to roughly 218 horsepower coming from the high-torque gut of a 6.75 liter V8 engine that has proven to be one of the best longest-lasting designs in automotive history. This reliable lump of iron got the 5,000-pound car from a standstill to 60 mph in about 10 seconds. It’s not fast like a cheetah, but it is suitable for the king of the luxury car jungle at the time, who didn’t have to run away from anyone. Over the years, the Corniches were characterized by slight deviations in appearance and specification, with the Corniche IV being the final version, of which around 219 examples were made between 1993 and 1996.

The 6.75-liter V8 engine has roughly 218 horsepower and takes the car from zero to 60 mph in about 10 seconds.

Few modern luxury collector’s cars are present – and express their time more eloquently – than a white Rolls-Royce Corniche. The cream-white paintwork, the white Everflex vinyl roof, the white-burgundy-colored leather interior and the inlaid burl wood paneling make the era a discount. Proof that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, this car was in the entertainer’s possession until his death in 2020.
