The New England Patriots released quarterback Cam Newton on Tuesday so Mac Jones will start the season in charge of the team’s offense.

This is what the daily “Boston Globe” reported in the morning. This outcome is surprising to say the least, because the “Pats” have decided to cut points with their number 1 pivot of the last season. Consequently, Newton will become a free agent.

He totaled 2,657 yards and eight aerial touchdowns in 2020, while committing 10 interceptions. The former Carolina Panthers opened New England’s three preseason games in August, but Jones was the hub who saw the most action in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. Newton hit the target twice on five occasions for 10 yards, while the 22-year-old completed 10 of his 14 stints for 156 yards and a touchdown, leading his own to a 22-20 victory.

Head coach Bill Belichick subsequently refused to publicly disclose the identity of his trusted quarterback ahead of the inaugural meeting, scheduled for September 12, against the Miami Dolphins.
