One of 2020’s most sought-after free agents has found a new home for a modest price.
Free agent Serge Ibaka has agreed to join the Los Angeles Clippers on a contract equivalent to a mid-level exception. The Athletic’s Shams Charania carried the signature news and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski added salary details.
Free agent Serge Ibaka has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
Free agent Serge Ibaka plans to sign a $ 19 million two-year deal with the Clippers, the source told ESPN.
Ibaka has played 11 seasons in the NBA and qualified for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors. He started 27 of 55 games with the Raptors last season, an average of 15. 4 points and 8. 2 rebounds in 27th. 0 minutes per game in middle position, shooting 51. 2% of the field and 38. 5% of the three-point arch.
The 30-year-old was among the better free agents of 2020. Portland Trail Blazers fans in particular seemed to covet him when a local media member retweeted a picture Ibaka had sent of the player boarding a private plane, allegedly for a meeting with free agents. The red and black stripes on the plane matched the blazer’s color scheme. At the time, the blazers had their own mid-level exception. They could have fitted Ibaka into their salary level at the same level as the Clippers. Instead, Portland ended up with striker Derrick Jones, Jr. . on that pay window while Ibaka went to Los Angeles. There is no evidence of a meeting or even discussion between the Blazers and Ibaka.
Ibaka will join former Raptors teammate Kawhi Leonard in LA. You will face rivals from across town and against other great men, LeBron James and (presumably) Anthony Davis.
