The Minister of the Economy announces a figure higher than the forecasts made so far. The budget deficit will be 220 billion euros (against 173.3 billion forecast).

“We expect a public deficit of 9.4% for 2021,” said the Minister of the Economy and Finance on France 2.

Various factors will continue to widen the public deficit this year, he explained, referring to the postponement of a certain number of expenses from 2020 to 2021 (credits intended for the solidarity fund and support for businesses not consumed by the last year, to the tune of 29 billion euros), the continuation of the support to a certain number of sectors and companies as well as the disbursements “of part of the recovery plan”, that is to say expenditure relating to the investment .

This new government forecast, which will appear in the amending finance bill (PLFR) presented to the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, is higher than the government’s previous estimate, which stood at a public deficit equivalent to 9.0% of national wealth.

According to the Minister of Public Accounts, Olivier Dussopt, the budget deficit (one of the components of the public deficit), will amount to “approximately 220 billion euros” this year against 173.3 billion provided for in the initial finance law .
