Bouygues Telecom Entreprises is riding the wave of digital sovereignty and entering the hosting and cloud markets. A dedicated entity with its own infrastructure, OnCloud will have to prove itself in an already crowded market …

Specializing in hosting and cloud computing, Bouygues Telecom Entreprises OnCloud is a new independent structure that benefits from its own infrastructures and the decade of experience of Nerim (company acquired in 2019).

“For two years, dozens of employees have designed new infrastructures and offers based on the real needs of our customers. What Bouygues Telecom Entreprises OnCloud offers today is unique in the market, both for the quality of the advice it provides and for its technical and commercial agility “, explains François Treuil, Director of Bouygues Telecom Entreprises. “We are delighted to change the scale of Bouygues Telecom Entreprises today and to become a complete, sovereign player under French law, at a time when the cloud cards are reshuffled and when the digital transformation of our companies and communities is taking place. accelerated. “

Both operator, integrator and host, Bouygues Telecom Entreprises OnCloud wants to assert itself as a ‘pure player’ of the cloud and apparently aims to quickly be recognized as a ‘trusted cloud’, according to the new name of the French government in the context of of the “national cloud strategy”. Indeed, the new player recalls that he is “a player under French law”, with infrastructures “located in France and strongly integrated into the Bouygues Telecom Entreprise network” but also designed “to the state of the art of security. by design ”. However, the new operator can only truly be recognized as a “trusted cloud” once it has been certified “SecNumCloud” by ANSSI, a process known to be complex, restrictive and costly which will take several months or even years.

It also highlights not only a very clear vision for customers of physical and technological risks but also leading technological suppliers and legitimate choices (geo-redundancy, security barrier on data centers, etc.) to avoid any loss of data.

Bouygues Telecom Entreprises OnCloud wants to cast a wide net and target SMEs and mid-caps as well as public authorities and large groups. The operator wants to both offer public IaaS cloud services but also help companies build their own private clouds.

However, with OnCloud, Bouygues Telecom Entreprises is committed to an already crowded field between the American hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, IBM Cloud, etc.), the small local hosts and the two operators already certified SecNumCloud that are OVHcloud and 3DS Outscale, not to mention Scaleway and the still nascent Bleu (the result of a joint venture between Capgemini and Orange). And without counting on the Gaia-X initiative which should also allow other European operators to establish themselves more strongly in France. The competition will be tough …
