US President Joe Biden has called on sports venues to require spectators to be vaccinated or tested negative in order to attend events across the country.
In a speech in which he outlined plans, Biden pleaded Introduce a mandate to vaccinate millions of federal government employees.
The US has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, with an average of 145,000 new cases reported in the past week.
This is a sharp increase since late June when around 11,000 were reported in the last few days of the month.
Approximately 175 million Americans have been fully vaccinated, but 80 million people are still to be dosed.
Hospital, healthcare workers and other medical facilities must be vaccinated under the Biden Executive Order as well as all federal employees.

The appeal to sports organizations could lead to tightening rules for entry requirements for events as participants and spectators at several events.
