The Manchester City player appeared in Chester Crown Court on Friday after being charged with rape and sexual assault.

Mendy, 27, faces four counts of rape, three of which are believed to have occurred in October 2020. Another offense is believed to have taken place in August this year.

The charges concern three plaintiffs over the age of 16 and are believed to have occurred between October 2020 and August 2021. Mendy’s co-accused, Louis Saha Matturie, is charged with four counts of rape.

The trial date has been set for January 24, 2022. The two men will remain in pre-trial detention until that date.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorized Cheshire Police to charge a second man in connection with allegations of sexual assault. Louis Saha Matturie, 40, has been charged with four counts of rape.

Benjamin Mendy was arrested on August 26, and was immediately suspended by his club Manchester City.
