BENGALURU: Bangalore University (Rank 249) is participating for the first time in the Global Employability Ranking and Survey (GEURS), which is carried out by the university personnel consultancy Emerging and published by Times Higher Education (THE).

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) reached 61st place worldwide and was only the second highest institute in terms of employability after the IIT Delhi.

The survey includes the 250 best universities in the world by recruiters. Bangalore University took 249th place. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi took the top position among the Indian institutes worldwide with 27th place.

Six other Indian universities that were placed in the ranking last year, interestingly, recorded an increase of 20 places on average. The country is also considered a rising star when it comes to employability, as are countries like mainland China, France and Spain.

The Indian Institute of Science was ranked 61st worldwide this year. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay ranked 97th compared to 128th place in the previous year. The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad moved up from 162 ranks (up from its previous 184 ranks).

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur ranks 170 this year (195 last year). Amity University ranks 225 (was 236 last year).

According to the report, Indian universities saw significant increases for the first time in years due to their strengths in subject specialization and graduate skills. India was among those countries like Great Britain and Israel that stood out for their digital performance.

The ranking includes six main drivers. This year, soft skills and digital competence were the most important factors for employers. These factors rose to the top during the Covid-19 pandemic. Two years ago, these factors were the fourth most important.

Sandrine Belloc, Managing Partner, Emerging, said: The annual GEURS Employability Ranking is specifically targeted at student needs to identify those universities with the best prospects for offer future employment. It gives them the reasons for the recruiters’ decisions and shows that indicators such as digitization, specialization or soft skills are becoming more and more important, much more important than the prestige of the name of a university.

Seeta Bhardwa, Content Editor at THE Student, said : This ranking provides a means of understanding what is important for graduate recruiters and helps students reflect on what to focus on when choosing a university to get themselves off to the best possible start on the career ladder.
