Two soldiers have died after being trapped in their vehicle that had crashed in a remote part of northern Queensland.

Police were found at the scene of a single vehicle on Dotswood Road at around 1:45 p.m. Monday Called in Dotswood near the Charters Towers.

Officials and firefighters found the soldiers unconscious and trapped in the vehicle and later died at the scene.

Defense Minister Peter Dutton told the federal parliament that there was a lot around the Lavarack- Barracks in Townsville would have significant manpower and assets.

“It is a very dangerous job that our troops are involved in, even during training drills and moving equipment on our national highways,” said Dutton.

“This is very sad news for our country and our condolences and thoughts go with your friends and family.”
