For this last match of the knockout stages of the Copa del Rey, Atlético de Madrid easily won (5-0) against Rayo Majadahonda, a 3rd division club, on Thursday evening. Antoine Griezmann, absent for three matches with a right thigh injury, replayed and scored. But he had to leave his partners in tears a few minutes later, presumably due to a relapse in his thigh. Entered into play in the 57th minute in place of Thomas Lemar (decisive passer), the French international scored the Colchoneros’ fourth goal (67th).

The first act, where Suarez got himself a chance from the first minute, was one-sided. Unlike Barça and Real, Atlético quickly took shelter. First in the 17th minute with the opener from Matheus Cunha after an error in relaunching the defense of Rayo (despite an offside position), then ten minutes later, after a sublime collective movement concluded by Renan Lodi (2-0).

Below his partners so far, Luis Suarez participated in the offensive festival of these first 45 minutes, scoring Madrid’s third goal on a caviar from Llorente (41st). El Pistolero, not very confident, remained on one goal in his last 13 matches. The Rayo, in real distress, did not strike once on goal in the first period. We will have to wait for the hour of play to see Oblak worried about a header from Iturraspe.

After a sluggish first quarter of an hour in the second half, Atlético got back on track with the entry into play of Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann. Coaching winner of El Cholo since the Portuguese also found the net on a service from Renan Lodi in the 79th minute (5-0).

The Colchoneros easily qualify for the knockout stages of the Copa del Rey, a stage in the competition that they had not reached for three years. They notably join FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
