Mikel Arteta has admitted that opinion-divisive Arsenal star Granit Xhaka is giving the team something different in his new position as left-back, in which the Swiss star has now appeared six times.

The Arsenal manager became asked whether the “very small rotation” in the problem position was deliberately carried out in order to give Xhaka the “best chance to adapt to the new role”.

Arteta agreed that this was “one of the reasons”. Xhaka has played every minute of the left-back’s last six games after Kieran Tierney was injured and looked mixed on the defensive.

Xhaka’s use in defense may have made the team more creative and forward-looking in midfield, but the 28th -Year-old had some difficulties in one-on-one situations in the new position.
