A forest fire broke out this Monday afternoon in Joannas near Largentière (Ardèche). There is little doubt about the criminal act because there were several fires started. As the area is difficult to access, several water bombers intervened as reinforcements.
The criminal act is privileged since there were three starts of fire, ignited in various points along a forest track, near the collar of Suchet. The area is wooded and steep, far from homes and difficult to access. In support of the 60 firefighters on the ground, a Dash aircraft and 4 Canadair therefore carried out a total of twenty drops.
This air support was decisive because the fire which started around 2:30 p.m. was fueled by the wind. According to the report of the prefecture at 6.30 p.m., the fire is now fixed. About 10 hectares burned down. We are far from the proportions of the big fires of the summer in Var, Aude or Vaucluse but it is the most important fire of the summer for the department of Ardèche which has been spared until then thanks to a wet summer.
