Alberta bar and restaurant owners say they are frustrated that under stricter COVID-19 restrictions, their patios will have to close once the weather warms up.

Ben Leon, owner at Dandy Brewing Co . in Calgary, says he understands that tighter measures are needed to keep infections under control.

But he wishes the government cracked down months ago instead of waiting for patio season to prepare.

Calgary restaurateur Leslie Echino had bet on serving more than two dozen people at the same time on an extended terrace in Annabelle’s kitchen.

She says restaurants need more support in the provinces and she is most concerned about how the occasional closures affect the mental health of their employees.
