For the second time since the 1960s, Greuther Furth’s club are playing in the Bundesliga. Based not far from Nuremberg, this small club will therefore have a very special season to say the least and intends to defend its own skin dearly in order to save its place and extend its adventure in the top flight. If the start of the season is complicated since the club has only one small point in five days, the shock against the legendary Bayern Munich on Friday 24 September is still shaping up to be a party. And who says party says special outfit. For the occasion, PUMA has designed a jersey that celebrates the club’s 118th anniversary.
Founded on September 23, 1903, Greuther Furth therefore celebrated his 118th birthday just a few hours ago and will now face the Bavarian ogre for the sixth day of the Bundesliga. For this occasion, the club’s outfitter PUMA has designed a special jersey. In the design, the jersey stands out for the presence of white and green vertical stripes which are the emblematic colors of the club and even of the Middle Franconia region. In addition to rediscovering the legendary coat of arms, we also find the symbolic trefoil on the upper back, right in the middle of the two dates 1903 and 2021.
But more than just a design, a game as important as the reception for Bayern Munich is also an opportunity to send messages. Thus, on the lower part of the outfit appears a message “Der Frankenmeister” which is quite simply intended for the rival club Nuremberg which is also part of this region of Franconia and which is still currently in 2. Bundesliga. “Our Frankenmeister jersey blends tradition and modernity just in time for our anniversary. I would like to express my thanks to our supplier PUMA, who has managed to give the particular history of our playing association a modern look and at the same time pay tribute to our most recent success – promotion to the Bundesliga. Anniversary and game against FC Bayern in the Premier League – there could not be a better occasion, ”said general manager Holger Schwiewagner.
All that’s left is for the players to make this outfit shine against Bayern Munich and not make it history for the wrong reason …
