AC Milan had to fight to qualify against Genoa (3-1 a.p.). Led by the goal of Norwegian defender Leo Ostigard (17th), who was playing his first match with the Genoa club, Stefano Pioli’s men relied on Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao to make the difference.
The Blues striker equalized with a header on a service from his compatriot Theo Hernandez (74th) before the former Lille driver Leao scored the liberating goal of a cross-center attempt which finally lobbed the Croatian goalkeeper Adrian Semper ( 102e). Belgian midfielder Alexis Saelemaekers widened the gap at the end of the match (112th).
Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao are definitely in good shape at the start of 2022: they both scored during the resumption of Serie A and the victorious reception of AS Rome (3-1) in early January. Leao also distributed two assists in the victory in Venice last Sunday (3-0).
Thanks to this victory, AC Milan joins Atalanta Bergamo, victorious over Venice on Wednesday night (2-0) and Fiorentina, which brought down Naples earlier in the day (5-2 a.p.).
