Miscellaneous “90% of the wooded area” of Ile aux Pins devastated by fire

DISASTER A large-scale fire attacked Île aux Pins, Plougrescant, and had affected “90% of the wooded area” when emergency services intervened

A violent fire broke out on Île aux Pins, at Plougrescant in the
Côtes-d´Armor, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, reports Le Trégor. In total, “90% of the wooded area was on fire,” said Anne Françoise Piedallu, the mayor of the town.

The rescue operation required the intervention of around 50 firefighters from eight barracks in the region. The island being uninhabited and not connected to water, the firefighters were able to approach their vehicles at low tide and then pump the seawater, once it rose, explains the information site.

This island has only a large area of vegetation, largely made up of pine trees, which earned it its name. “We will have to remain vigilant anyway because of the underlying fires. The Isle of Pines without pines… What sadness, ”the mayor particularly lamented to our colleagues.

An investigation has been opened to try to determine the exact circumstances of this devastating fire. The firefighters were still on site this Wednesday morning.
