Hayao Miyazaki is world famous for his animated films. This Japanese director has never ceased to amaze the film world with his works. My Neighbor Totoro, The Castle in the Sky, or Ponio on the Cliff, we’ve all heard of at least one of those songs. But did you know these little anecdotes about the co-founder of Studio Ghibli?

Miyazaki’s family had extensive aviation experience. Indeed, Hayao Miyazaki’s father was the manager of a rudder or other parts of fighter jets manufacturing company. Miyazaki Airplane had notably served the Japanese government during World War II.

Aviation has therefore become a passion for Miyazaki, and a source of inspiration for some of his films, such as My Neighbor Totoro, released in 1988, or Porco Rosso, which dates from 1992, and many more.
